Legend says he was born in 1642 in Fife, Scotland, and he lived over a hundred years and died in Maryland in Colonial America. Simon was captured in battle in Scotland by the British and taken to England to serve out an indentured servitude. He later went to the new world and bought some land in Maryland. He died there in 1749 according to legend. Many of his descendants live in America now, like me.
Simon was my Seventh great grandfather and the immigrant and first of the line in the new world. His son Thomas was the father of Lt. John Nichols of Maryland, a revolutionary war soldier who lived in Virginia after the war.
Simon was the Town Crier and a planter. He was arrested once for being drunk in public and was put in the stockades. This is my ancestor and my heritage. My Scottish highlander ancestor, Simon Nicholls of the Clan MacNicol.
