Anthony Poff, son of Peter and father of Catherine.

Family Tree Tuesday

 

Anthony Poff was my 3rd great grandfather. He married Sarah Wilson. He was the son of Peter Riley Poff and Elizabeth Pickel or Bickel or Bickle. He had two brothers named Henry Poff who were twins, according to sources. 

Anthony was not the son of Henry as some have speculated. They were brothers. Anthony was the father of Catherine Poff who married to John Henry Collins, John was her second husband and my second great grandfather.  

Anthony was also the brother of Peter Poff, Jr. among others. 

And while I am on the subject, Catherine Poff was born in Virginia. She was not the Catherine Poff who was born in MO.

Tombstone Tuesday - Louisa Catherine Aldridge

 a picture from the grave of my second great grandmother Louisa Catherine Aldridge King, born 1850 in Virginia. Wife of Mike King. Mother of Turissia Marcella King. 

I have yet to find a document to explain the name Octaive on the stone but who knows. sometimes people had two or more middle names. I suspect it should say Octavia, but still unknown. 

While some have credited her as a daughter of Madison Martin Aldridge, it has been pointed out that Madison was separated from her mother long before she was born, and he could not be her father. 

A cousin said that her mother, Polly Gibson, married Madisons brother, Green Aldridge, and that all of Polly's children were his. however, in the divorce trial, Madison said that Polly had two men who were possible fathers of her children. 

Louisa married Mike O King, a distant cousin of George Washington. 

No word on what happened to Polly, but she may have moved away with Green.
