"In the beginning, our family was human, A thousand years ago, now(11th century). Although our mother dabbled in the dark arts(#witch), we were actually just a family trying to survive in a time when it was quite difficult to do so(#10th century). And, for better or worse, we were happy. That is, however, until one night, our youngest brother was killed by our village's greatest threat. Men that could transform themselves into wolves during the full moon(#werewolves). Our family was devastated, none more than Niklaus (werewolf). Desperate to protect the rest of us, our father forced our mother to call upon her black magic in order to make us stronger(forced a witch?). Thus, the first vampires were born(10th century). But with this speed, this strength, this immortality, came a terrible hunger. No one felt this hunger more than Niklaus(hybrid). ” — Elijah to Hayley about his family in Always and Forever
If you haven't seen the TV show, the Originals is a spin off of the Vampire Diaries show in which the Mikaelson family returns to Louisiana to live amongst the Werewolves and Vampires who weren't drowned to death by Hurricane Katrina.
Who are the Mikaelsons? Well, the Mikaelsons lived in Virginia in the 10th century AD. (#900s) Although they all seem to have British accents, the British did not settle in Jamestown until 1607. (#17thCentury) Clearly, Elijah is not good with timelines or maybe he is getting Alzheimer's, but whatever the reason, 11 centuries later, the Mikaelsons return to New Orleans where they had once "run the town."
The Mikaelsons claim to be the first vampires, although Silas was born sometime around the 1st century, about 9- 10 centuries before them and although the blood of his girlfriend's family is needed to cast the spell to make them vampires. (#doppelgangers) Hester, Elijah's mother (who is a witch), uses the blood of Tatia, Klaus's girlfriend to cast the spell to make them all immortal, but does not tell anyone that Tatia is a descendant of Silas' girlfriend, Amara (who was killed by a witch)... (So the real Originals are???)
Ironically, Elijah's brother Niklaus hooks up with another werewolf, Hayley, who is also descended from his father, who lived about 11 centuries before her, and they are having a baby. These two distant cousins are destined to run the town together, unless of course, Niklaus kicks Hayley to the curb and hooks up with Caroline. (#drama) Wouldn't that make an interesting Maury show?
