while I still don't know for sure who the parents of john are. meaning I have no absolute proof. I have a theory that works. over time I tried to connect him to Isaac nichols and Rhoda bond, but no, they were married in 1818. John was born in 1814. although they were married in Bedford VA., they were not the parents of john. also, Isaac appears to have had a son in 1814 named Isaac, so unless he had twins he was not the father of john. eventually DNA proved that they were not the same bloodline because Isaac is a descendant of the Thomas Nichols line u152, and I am not. my paper trail ends at John Nichols b. 1814 in Bedford, VA., so Isaac is not my line and so neither is he John's.
however, my DNA matches descendants of John Nichols of MD b. 1720 and his grandfather Simon Nicholls of Scotland. so I figured that maybe, my John is a grandson of Lt. John Nichols of MD. searching his family I found one or two possible parents for my John AKA Ezekiel. at first, I thought maybe he was the son of sgt. Archibald Nichols and Judith Hatcher, but there is no proof of that. none of the children of arch and Judith were named John arch had a brother, Captain John p Nichols, some have called him John James Nichols Jr. but documents from court show his name was john p Nichols. JP had a son named John James Nichols who was a private in the military and was left a shotgun by his grandfather Lt John Nichols. but this John III moved to Tennessee and is not my John Ezekiel Nichols. also Judith may have died before 1814, which would make her not the mother of Zeke.
looking at other options I saw that arch married a first wife before Judith, but there are no known children of that marriage. and she wouldn't have been the mother of Zeke. grandmother maybe but probably not mother.
looking again, I saw a brother of arch who may have had children about 1814 in Bedford, VA. that brother was Elisha Nichols. Elisha married Rosie slinker first and again no known children of the marriage, he next married Nancy Payne and had a son Elisha Christopher before 1814, so he was married and having kids then and living in Bedford county. *on a side note. John Ezekiel Nichols had a son named Ezekiel who had a son named Ezekiel Christopher Nichols. just a coincidence? maybe.
recently I listed Elisha as a possible father of john Ezekiel and now have DNA matches on ancestry to Elisha through his son Elisha and his daughter Nancy. so I think there is a really good chance now that Elisha may have been the father of john Ezekiel Nichols, and he was probably named after his grandfather Lt. John Nichols who married Martha j payne, Nancy Payne is believed to be the daughter of flayle Payne, Jr., who is the brother of Martha j payne.
any way DNA does not lie, so I am pretty sure now that Elisha Nichols is the father of john Ezekiel Nichols and grandfather of my second great grandfather Ezekiel h Nichols. so that is one wall broken.
simon Nicholls of Scotland begat Thomas Nichols of MD who begat Lt. John Nichols of MD who begat Elisha Nichols of Bedford, VA. who begat John Ezekiel Nichols of Bedford, VA. who begat Ezekiel hankin Nichols of Franklin VA. who begat my great grandpa James IRA Nichols AKA Jim. wall broken.
